Kids Whatameal prices

Whataburger's kids menu is short: three Kids Whatameals and a Grilled Cheese that can be ordered alone or as a meal. The cheapest kids meals are the Justaburger and the four-piece Whatachick'n Bites, both $4.99.

Each kids meal, explained

• Justaburger Kids Whatameal ($4.99, 615 cal for the meal). The Justaburger used to be sold on its own; the standalone Justaburger is now on Whataburger's discontinued list, so in our check it came only as a kids meal. See the Justaburger page.
• Whatachick'n Strips 2 Piece Kids Whatameal ($5.49, 710 cal). Two of the same strips used in the adult #13, which come three to an order.
• Whatachick'n Bites 4 Piece Kids Whatameal ($4.99, 620 cal). Bite-size chicken pieces. Adult bites were not on the Dallas menu we checked.
• Grilled Cheese ($1.99 alone, 510 cal; $4.79 as a meal, 830 cal). The only meat-free sandwich on the menu. Details on the Grilled Cheese page.

Turning the Grilled Cheese into a meal adds $2.80 and 320 calories.

Kids meal or a Jr. sandwich?

For an older child, a Jr. sandwich can make more sense. A #7 Whataburger Jr. is $3.99 and 310 calories on its own, and the $4 Jr. sandwiches on the value menu come as a Jr. Whatameal with small fries and a small drink for $7.00. That is more food than a kids meal for about two dollars more.

Small sides and drinks for kids

These smaller items were on the menu at the stores we checked. They are low in calories and cost less than a side of fries ($2.99 for a medium).

Applesauce was priced at Store #608 (Dallas Pkwy & Frankford, Dallas, TX); the snacks, milk and juice at Store #367 (West & San Angelo, San Antonio, TX). A medium order of fries is 420 calories; applesauce is 40.

Kids menu allergens and nutrition

The Justaburger meal lists wheat, gluten and soy but no milk or egg. The Grilled Cheese lists milk. For the chicken kids meals our source has no allergen line, but the adult strips list milk, wheat, gluten and soy. Check the allergen menu and tell the store about any allergy.

Which kids meal gives the most food for the money

Our math, from the Dallas prices: the Justaburger meal gives about 123 calories per dollar, the four-piece Bites meal about 124, and the two-strip meal about 129. The strips meal costs $0.50 more than the other two and has the most calories of the three.

The cheapest way to feed a small child is the Grilled Cheese on its own at $1.99, which leaves room to share fries from an adult meal. For two children, two Justaburger meals come to $9.98, while a Grilled Cheese meal plus a Justaburger meal comes to $9.78.

The calorie gap between the meals is small: the lightest is 615 and the heaviest 710, so pick by what your child will actually eat and finish.
