Texas: the home state

Whataburger was founded in Corpus Christi in 1950 and is based in San Antonio. Texas has 787 stores in 326 cities. The cities with the most stores are San Antonio (59), Houston (56), Fort Worth (25), Corpus Christi (24), El Paso (24), Dallas (21).

Outside Texas

The other 430 stores are spread across 16 states, led by Florida (54), Oklahoma (51), Arizona (45), Georgia (43), Alabama (41). The newest areas include the Carolinas, Kansas and Missouri, where Whataburger has expanded since 2021.

East to west

The easternmost Whataburgers in the directory are in North Carolina, around Raleigh (Garner and Wake Forest). The westernmost is the single store on the Las Vegas Strip; after that, the farthest west are in the Phoenix area of Arizona, in Surprise and Goodyear.

That spread, from the Atlantic side of the Carolinas to the Nevada desert, is the widest Whataburger has ever been, but the chain is still mostly a Southern and Southwestern one.
