How to read this allergen menu

We list allergens for 48 of the 78 items on our current menu. Each item shows what it contains, what it is listed as free of, and what is not stated either way. The allergen lines are Whataburger's information as compiled by fastfoodnutrition.org, matched to the items and prices we checked on Nov 3, 2026.

Three words matter. Contains means the allergen is in the recipe. Free means the listing says it is not in the recipe. Not listed means the source says nothing about it, which is not the same as free. Sesame, mustard and sulfites are often not listed, so treat them as unknown.

Items with no allergen line at all are mostly new or changed recipes. For those, the parts of the build (bun, cheese, bacon, sauce) tell you most of the story, and each item page explains it. Full nutrition is on the nutrition and calories page.

Which allergens show up most

Across the items with an allergen line, soy appears in 34, wheat in 32, milk in 27 and egg in 15. Soy and wheat come mostly from the buns, breading and biscuits. Milk comes from cheese, shakes, butter and the biscuit dough. Egg is mostly on the breakfast menu and in mayonnaise-style sauces.

No item in our data lists peanuts or tree nuts as an ingredient. 37 items are listed as free of both. That is about the recipe only; shared fryers and prep areas are covered on is Whataburger safe for a peanut allergy.

Burger allergens

Every listed full-size burger contains wheat, gluten and soy from the bun. The #1 Whataburger, the #2 Double Meat and the #3 Triple Meat are listed as free of milk and egg, because they come with no cheese and with mustard, not mayonnaise.

Adding cheese adds milk. The #4 JalapeƱo & Cheese and the #5 Bacon & Cheese both carry milk for that reason. Builds and prices are on the burger menu.

Chicken allergens

The breaded chicken (strips and Whatachick'n fillets) adds wheat and soy, and some coatings and sauces add milk or egg. The grilled chicken fillet is the simpler option, but the bun still brings wheat and soy.

Breakfast allergens

Breakfast is where egg and milk are hardest to avoid. Eggs are in the sandwiches, taquitos and platters, and the biscuits contain milk and wheat.

Quick lists by allergen

These lists come straight from the allergen lines above. They only include items that have a line.

For a full gluten-free plan, read Whataburger gluten-free options. Dairy-free orders are on Whataburger dairy-free, and meat-free orders on vegetarian and vegan.

Ordering with an allergy

Removing an ingredient changes the allergens. A #1 with no bun drops the wheat and soy from the bun, and a burger with no cheese drops the milk from the cheese. Make the change when you order so it is part of the order, not a note at the counter.

Fast-food kitchens commonly share fryers and prep space, and a kitchen that makes cheese burgers, shakes and biscuits all day is not an allergen-free space. If an allergy is severe, tell the staff when you order and use Whataburger's own allergen chart for the final check, because recipes change and cross-contact is not shown in any table.
