Whataburger App and Rewards: How Points and Offers Work

The Whataburger app's rewards give you 10 points for every $1 spent, online or in store, which you trade for free menu items; rewards expire after a year. The app also lets you order ahead and pay with card, Apple Pay, PayPal, Paze or a gift card.

How points work

Whataburger's rewards program runs in the Whataburger app. Members earn 10 points for every $1 spent, both online and in store, according to Restaurant Dive's report on the program's relaunch (February 2023). Points are banked and traded for free menu items.

Joining is free: download the app, create an account, and you are enrolled.

Earning points in store

In a restaurant, scan the QR code in the app when you pay, so the purchase is added to your account. Orders placed ahead in the app earn points automatically.

Redeeming rewards

Open the rewards section of the app and pick an item; the point cost depends on the item. Rewards can be used online and in restaurants, though some airport and stadium locations do not take them. Rewards expire one year after they are earned, so use them rather than saving them forever.

For context, a #7 Whataburger Jr. is $3.99 and a Taquito with Cheese $3.89 at the stores we checked.

Ordering ahead in the app

The app lets you order ahead for pickup at the menu price, with every change typed in. It takes payment by linked debit or credit card, Apple Pay, PayPal, Paze or a Whataburger gift card, according to its App Store listing.

Payment details are on what payment Whataburger accepts.

Rewards and delivery apps

Points are earned on Whataburger's own channels: the app, the website and in-store purchases scanned with the app. Orders placed through third-party delivery apps are paid in those apps, so they sit outside Whataburger's rewards program.

That is one more reason ordering ahead in the Whataburger app for pickup is the cheaper option; see how to order at Whataburger.

Tips to get more from the app

App offers

Limited-time offers and coupons appear in the app. They change often, so we do not list them here; the deals we track are on Whataburger deals and coupons.

Is it worth it?

If you eat at Whataburger more than once a month, yes. At 10 points per dollar, a #1 Whatameal ($9.59) earns about 96 points. Ordering ahead also skips the line, and pickup avoids the higher prices on delivery apps; see store vs delivery prices.
